Getting From Newark Airport to Long Island
Long Island is the longest transfer we run regularly, and it is also the one where the alternatives are worst. The rail option means getting into Manhattan, crossing to Penn Station, taking the Long Island Rail Road out to your branch, and then arranging a car at the far end anyway. With luggage and a family, that is most of a day.
By car it is a single journey. Western Nassau destinations like Garden City are usually around ninety minutes. The North Shore and central Suffolk run longer. The East End and the Hamptons are a genuine long-distance trip, and in summer Friday traffic they can take three hours or more.
Because the range is so wide, we quote every Long Island transfer against the specific address rather than by county. A trip to Great Neck and a trip to Montauk are not the same booking.
Crossing the City to Reach the Island
Every route to Long Island has to get past New York City first. The usual path is a Hudson crossing, then across Manhattan or up over the George Washington Bridge and through the Bronx, into Queens, and onto the Long Island Expressway or the Northern State Parkway heading east.
The city portion is the unpredictable part. Once you are past the Queens border and onto the expressways, the run east is generally steady outside of summer weekends and weekday rush.
Timing matters more here than on any other route. A Friday afternoon departure toward the East End in summer can double the journey. We will tell you honestly when a different departure time would make a substantial difference rather than quoting an optimistic number.
Tolls and charges on this route
Long Island transfers cross the Hudson and then traverse the city before reaching the Long Island Expressway. Port Authority tolls apply on the Hudson crossing, and MTA tolls apply on the bridges used to reach Queens. Routes passing through Manhattan below 60th Street also incur the per-trip congestion charge. Because distances vary so widely across the island, we quote each Long Island transfer individually rather than by zone.

Choosing a Vehicle for This Route
On a journey of this length, vehicle choice affects the experience more than on any short transfer. We generally recommend a full-size SUV for anything beyond western Nassau, both for cabin comfort over a longer drive and because travelers heading to Long Island are frequently carrying more luggage than a sedan comfortably holds. Groups and families going to the East End should book a Sprinter van — on a two to three hour drive, keeping everyone in one vehicle is worth a great deal.

Your vehicle is assigned before you land.
A reserved car does not depend on how many drivers happen to be near the terminal when you clear baggage claim, and it does not reprice itself because your flight arrived during a busy hour.
The rate is fixed when you book.
You approve a flat rate in advance. Traffic, delays and the day of the week do not change it afterwards.
We track the flight, not the schedule.
Early landings and delays are adjusted automatically. You do not need to contact us from the jet bridge.
