Connecting Between Newark and JFK

This transfer is almost always time-critical. People book it because they have a separately ticketed itinerary, because a flight was rebooked to the other airport, or because an international departure out of JFK follows a domestic arrival into Newark. In every one of those cases, arriving late is not an inconvenience — it is a missed flight.

The distance is about thirty-six road miles, and the honest travel time is forty-five minutes to well over an hour depending on the hour. There is no practical rail connection between the two airports that does not involve going into Manhattan and back out, which is why this is a route where a car is close to the only sensible option.

We track both flights. If your arrival into Newark is delayed, we know before you land, and we can tell you honestly whether the connection is still realistic rather than driving you to the airport to watch a door close.

How We Plan the Connection

There are two routes. The northern option crosses the Hudson, passes through or around Manhattan, and comes down through Brooklyn or Queens to JFK. The southern option runs down the Turnpike, over the Goethals into Staten Island, across the Verrazzano into Brooklyn, and along the Belt Parkway to the airport, avoiding Manhattan entirely.

The southern route is usually more reliable during weekday peaks. The northern route can be faster late at night and on quiet weekend mornings. Your chauffeur decides on the day based on live conditions.

When you book, tell us your departure time out of JFK and the airline. We will work backwards to a pickup time that leaves a genuine buffer for check-in and security rather than one that only works if nothing goes wrong.

Tolls and charges on this route

This transfer crosses the Hudson and then the city, or takes the southern route across Staten Island and through Brooklyn. Port Authority and MTA tolls apply depending on the routing chosen. Routes passing through Manhattan below 60th Street also incur the per-trip congestion charge. Your quoted flat rate is fixed regardless of which routing conditions dictate on the day.

Choosing a Vehicle for This Route

For a connection with checked luggage, we generally recommend sizing up. A full-size SUV handles airport luggage more comfortably than a sedan, and on a transfer where you are moving everything you travel with between two airports, the extra space is usually worth it. Groups connecting together should book a Sprinter van so nobody arrives separately and the whole party clears check-in at the same time.

Why Book This Transfer in Advance

Your vehicle is assigned before you land.

A reserved car does not depend on how many drivers happen to be near the terminal when you clear baggage claim, and it does not reprice itself because your flight arrived during a busy hour.

The rate is fixed when you book.

You approve a flat rate in advance. Traffic, delays and the day of the week do not change it afterwards.

We track the flight, not the schedule.

Early landings and delays are adjusted automatically. You do not need to contact us from the jet bridge.

Typically 45 to 75 minutes for roughly 36 road miles. Weekday peaks push it toward the upper end and occasionally beyond. We plan the pickup around your JFK departure time rather than around the average.
