Getting From Newark Airport to Your Ship

Cape Liberty in Bayonne is remarkably close to Newark Airport — eight to ten miles, and usually fifteen to twenty minutes. Geographically this is the easiest transfer on our list. Practically, it is the one where vehicle size matters most, because cruise passengers travel with considerably more luggage than almost anyone else.

A family of four boarding a ten-day sailing routinely has six or seven large cases plus carry-ons. That does not fit in a sedan, and it frequently does not fit in a standard rideshare either, which is how people end up standing outside a terminal watching a car drive away.

We size the vehicle to your actual bag count. Tell us how many passengers and how many pieces of luggage when you book, and we will put the right vehicle on it rather than guessing.

The Short Run to Bayonne

The route leaves the airport and runs north on local highways through Newark and Jersey City into Bayonne, arriving at the cruise terminal entrance. There is no bridge or tunnel toll involved, which is unusual for a route out of EWR.

The main variable is not distance but the terminal itself on embarkation day. Cape Liberty gets busy in a concentrated window when several thousand passengers arrive within a few hours, and the approach road backs up. We factor that into the pickup time on sailing days.

For disembarkation, the reverse applies. Ships clear passengers in waves and the terminal exit is congested for a period after docking. Tell us your disembarkation time and we will plan around the pattern rather than the schedule.

Tolls and charges on this route

This is one of the few routes from Newark Airport that involves no Hudson River crossing and no congestion charge. Cape Liberty sits in Bayonne on the New Jersey side, so the transfer stays entirely within the state. It is consequently one of the more affordable transfers we run relative to how much luggage is usually involved.

Areas We Serve in Cape Liberty Cruise Port

  • Cape Liberty Cruise Port

The main terminal at Bayonne, serving Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and seasonal operators.

  • Bayonne

The surrounding city, including hotels used for pre-cruise stays.

  • Jersey City

On the route between the airport and the terminal, and a common pre-cruise hotel location.

  • Newark

Hotels near the airport frequently used the night before an early sailing.

  • Hoboken

A short distance north, and a common overnight base for cruise passengers.

  • Elizabeth

South of the airport, with several hotels used by cruise travelers.

Choosing a Vehicle for This Route

This is the route where we most often recommend sizing up, and where doing so matters most. Two passengers with two large cases each are already at the practical limit of an executive sedan. A family of four with a week or more of luggage needs a full-size SUV at minimum, and often a Sprinter van. Tell us the number of checked bags rather than just the number of passengers, because on this route the bags are the constraint.

Why Book This Transfer in Advance

Your vehicle is assigned before you land.

A reserved car does not depend on how many drivers happen to be near the terminal when you clear baggage claim, and it does not reprice itself because your flight arrived during a busy hour.

The rate is fixed when you book.

You approve a flat rate in advance. Traffic, delays and the day of the week do not change it afterwards.

We track the flight, not the schedule.

Early landings and delays are adjusted automatically. You do not need to contact us from the jet bridge.
